Non-Surgical Root Canal Therapy

What is a root canal?

With more than 14 million root canals performed annually, root canal therapy is one of the most common dental procedures. This simple treatment can save your natural teeth and prevent the need for dental implants or bridges.

Root canal therapy is required when the dental pulp (nerve) becomes inflamed or infected. This may be the result of a deep cavity, trauma, fractures or repeated dental procedures. Patients in need of a root canal often exhibit extreme cold and/or hot sensitivity, swelling, or pain in the tooth or gums.

Root canal therapy is a relatively painless procedure performed under local anesthesia. Treatment involves removing the diseased pulp tissue from the roots and carefully cleaning and shaping the inside of the canal. Dr. Sahni will then fill and seal the space. This procedure may be completed in one or more visits, depending on the treatment required. Patients are typically able to drive themselves home, and even return to work and normal activities that same day.

What happens after treatment?

              Pre-op                            Post-Op

When your root canal therapy has been completed, a record of your treatment will be sent to your restorative dentist. You should contact their office for a follow-up restoration within a few weeks of completion at our office. Your restorative dentist will decide on what type of restoration is necessary to protect your tooth. To prevent further decay, continue to practice good dental hygiene.
